Les Echos: Luxury vacation rentals - Le Collectionist steps up acquisitions

The Collectionist continues to expand its portfolio of ultra-luxury villas.

After three acquisitions in 2022 in France, Greece and Ibiza, the specialist in high-end vacation home rentals with concierge service will announce in a few days' time a strategic partnership with Insider Villas, an operator based in the Balearic Islands.

With this deal, the Paris-based SME founded in 2014 will gain access to the 160-home portfolio of the Spanish group, which operates in Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca, strengthening its presence on islands prized by a wealthy clientele.

And Max Aniort, CEO and founder of The Collectionist, which currently employs 250 people, has no intention of stopping there.

The young entrepreneur is aiming for further acquisitions in 2023, with four projects already in the pipeline to consolidate existing markets, notably in Italy and the Caribbean.

In 2022 alone, more than 500 new properties have been added to the company's catalog, bringing the total to 1,800 exceptional residences in 30 cities around the world, including five new destinations (Costa Rica, the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean, Mauritius, the Dominican Republic and South Africa).

The average price of a week's rental is still around 30,000 euros, with exceptional residences going for several hundred thousand euros.

Successful ski season :

"The pandemic and the economic crisis have not prevented our customers from going on vacation, especially as they have become accustomed during Covid to renting homes with tailor-made concierge services, as we offer, rather than staying in hotels," explains Max Aniort.

The start of the year has lived up to the entrepreneur's expectations, with bookings at an all-time high.

"The ski season has been very positive, despite the late arrival of the snow.

At the end of March 2023, we should have the best quarter since the company was founded", says the CEO, noting that "customers are once again planning much further ahead, which was less the case over the last two years".

More than 120 new hires are planned for 2022, and around 100 positions are to be filled this year to develop both the central office in Paris and the existing local offices in south-east and south-west France, Barcelona, Ibiza and Switzerland.

The group recently acquired new resources with the raising of 60 million euros in December from the Highland Europe investment fund.

The Collectionist, which is not disclosing its current sales figures, hopes to achieve 140 million euros by 2023, with a medium-term target of 500 million euros by 2026.

Before "why not become the first unicorn in this industry?" dreams its CEO. In the meantime, Le Collectionist has just joined French Tech 120, a government support program dedicated to the most successful French companies.
