Concentrated Burgundy
01/12/2022 Terre de VinsYou rarely find yourself in Bouzeron by chance. Few roads - even fewer signs - lead to this small valley surrounded by forests and its village of 130 souls.
Ideal for strolling away from the crowds. And especially to discover the other white of Burgundy: the aligoté. “Bouzeron is the only village appellation dedicated to this grape variety, which is on the rise.
It is renowned for its freshness, but also for its agronomic interest in the face of global warming”, summarizes Xavier Badinand, general manager of Chanzy.
A house that specializes in the appellation and is proud of its queen cuvée: Clos de la Fortune (€18.50), a single-plot Bouzeron monopoly, whose elegance would go perfectly with a meal of shellfish.
You can taste it in the heart of the plot, a privileged moment because accompanied by a reading of the landscape (45 €., 3 hours by appointment).
If you are short on time, opt for the classic visit instead (1h30, €15 without an appointment).
The opportunity to discover the entire production process. “The route passes through its fermentation room and its barrel cellar.
It's an immersion, the employees of his house work at the same time”, reveals Karine Moreteaux, in charge of wine tourism at Chanzy.
She does not prepare a speech: the explanations rather take the form of a conversation and are adapted to each person's knowledge. Moreover, "we don't look at the watch, and the time is often over"!
The visit ends of course with the tasting of a bouzeron and four other wines from the wide range of the house, which travels through Burgundy from Givry to Vosne-Romanée.
Because the domain has grown well since its acquisition by the company Olma, a specialist in French luxury, in 2013. An investor who brings his expertise, while leaving the domain “to remain in a family operation”, appreciates Xavier Badinand .
Acquired by OLMA Luxury Holdings at the end of 2012, Domaine Chanzy has seen a number of major changes and developments that have led it to become the major Côte Chalonnaise vineyard it is today. Historically located in Bouzeron, a small and hidden Burgundian village typical of the region, it expanded to the neighbouring towns with the acquisition of Domaine Pagnotta in 2016, doubling the vineyard area to reach 80 hectares. The wines of Domaine Chanzy are frequently praised in the specialist press: they are the essence of the respect given to the terroirs from vine cultivation through to the wine-making and ageing process.
